A pump is a mechanical device used to transport or pressurize liquids.
The earliest pump is used to supply water, and we Chinese invented it:

Later, around 300 BC, Archimedes invented a pump called the "Archimedean spiral water pump", which is still being produced by manufacturers today. This is very similar to modern pumps, except that the handle in the picture was replaced with an electric one.
The purpose of the pump

There are many types of pumps, and here we introduce the most basic "centrifugal pump", which is constructed as follows:
The working principle is that the liquid rotates with the impeller and moves along the channels between the blades towards the outer edge under the action of centrifugal force, increasing the speed and mechanical energy. The liquid leaves the impeller and enters the volute, where the flow channel gradually expands and the fluid velocity slows down. The kinetic energy of the liquid is converted into static pressure energy, and the pressure continues to rise. Finally, it flows out of the volute along the tangential direction and is discharged through a conduit.
